To continue our network upgrades, we have ordered upgrades of our metro ethernet circuits, and IP Transit feeds.
This will bring our metro ethernet rings up to a minimum of 10Gbit/s per segment. It will also increase our external connectivity to multiples of 10Gbit/s.
Lead times for 10Gbit/s upgrades are long (figures of 75 days, or 40-50 working days have been mentioned), so we expect the metro ethernet upgrades to take place in the summer. However, we have requested the earliest time possible.
To maintain maximum resilience during these upgrades, our Openreach and Vodafone metro circuits will be running alongside their existing circuits. Our VirginMedia circuit will upgrade in-place however.
Our IP Transit feeds from GTT and Cogent will likely upgrade much sooner, but their full usage will not be realised until the metro ring upgrades are completed.
