Emergency Planned Maintenance (Network)

British Telecom have informed us today of a period of emergency planned maintenance on 8th July 2015 starting at 2:00am UK local time lasting for up to 1 hour 30 minutes – this work is to re-route our fibre optic cabling between Manchester and Bolton due to works on the Manchester Metrolink transport system.

During this period we will operate with reduced resilience.  We operate a ring network between our Manchester and Bolton sites via multiple vendors.  Traffic will automatically reroute via the alternative path in the ring whilst the maintenance occurs.

We do not anticipate any outages from this work, but network connectivity for the Bolton sites should be considered ‘at risk’

  1. Just a reminder that this maintenance window is due to take place overnight tonight.

  2. No outages of our circuit were experienced overnight.
We have contacted BT Openreach for further information.

  3. We saw an outage of this circuit between 11:21pm and 11:41pm this evening. Presumably this was due to the delayed work.

Our network reconverged almost instantly as per its design and no outage should have been experienced during the above timeframe.
