We were notified of an outage on one of our backup servers (DT-310) this morning at approximately 9:00am UK local time.
The server sufferred a hardware RAID controller failure with its HP SmartArray controller.
For the sake of data integrity, the filesystem is performing a full FSCK (filesystem check) and Quota Check offline – due to the size of the filesystem and number of files/blocks stored, it is anticipated to take until mid-afternoon to complete.
As server backups are handled overnight, the impact should be minimal during the day.
The nature of the controller failure is such that there is no data loss expected at all – the check is merely a precaution under the circumstances.
Our other backup servers remain unaffected and continue to operate normally.
